"Abel" is a 1986 Dutch comedy film directed by Alex van Warmerdam. The plot follows the titular character, played by van Warmerdam himself, a socially awkward man who still lives with his parents and works at a local slaughterhouse. When his abusive father unexpectedly dies, Abel's life changes dramatically as he tries to assert his independence and come to terms with his past. The cast also includes Henri Garcin as Abel's overbearing mother, Olga Zuiderhoek as his supportive coworker, and Loes Luca as a mysterious woman who captures Abel's heart. Other notable actors in the film include Annnet Malherbe, Louis Luka, Arend Jan Heerma van Voss, Anton Kothuys, Piero Maszkini, and Elmar Schiporst.
